The Japanese pianist Rie Kibayashi studied piano at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo. She continued her studies at the Karlsruhe University of Music, where she completed the Solistenexamen in piano, and at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, where she completed the Konzertexamen in piano chamber music. Her teachers include Elena Ashkenazy, Constantin Ganev, Kaya Han, and Angelika Merkle. She is a prizewinner of several competitions, including the Brahms Piano Competition in Detmold and the Marbella International Piano Competition in Spain, and has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Baden-Baden Philharmonic and the Landestheater Detmold.

Her particular passion is chamber music. She performs regularly with the award-winning Trio Hannari, founded in 2020, with whom she has appeared at major concert venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Alte Oper Frankfurt. In 2022, the trio released a CD featuring works by F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, J. Turina, J. Haydn, and V. Žuraj. A versatile pianist, she collaborates closely with distinguished musicians such as Noémi Zipperling (Aris Quartet), Erik Schumann (Schumann Quartet), and Tabea Zimmermann.

Rie Kibayashi also works as an official accompanist at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb and at masterclasses such as the Cello-Tage Schlitz, the Leutkirch Summer Academy and the Kronberg Academy. Since October 2022, she is teaching at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.
