Michaela Srumova was born in Prague and studied solo singing at the Prague Conservatory with Prof. Olga Jiráková. During her studies, she completed the summer master classes in early music in Valtice. After completing her studies, she successfully participated in the Emma Destinova International Singing Competition in České Budějovice. At the Contemporary Music Marathon in Prague, she presented a minimalist piece by Steeve Reich – Tehillim. She sang as a guest at the Pilsen Theatre in O. Nicolai’s opera The Merry Wives of Windsor in the role of Anna. She regularly sings as a guest with the Prague Symphony Orchestra. With this orchestra, she took part in the live recording of the renewed Czech premiere of Gluck’s opera Ezio in the role of Emperor Valentinian. At the invitation of the Egyptian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, she sang at the New Year’s concert in Cairo with a selection from the famous operettas by Franz Lehar, Emerich Kálmán and Johann Strauss. She participates in music festivals in Znojmo, Třebíč, Brno, Náměšť nad Oslavou and Ostrava, where she has performed in the operas Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart, Il Mondo della Luna by J. Haydn, King Arthur by H. Purcell, Montezuma – J. Mysliveček and the oratorios Judas Maccabeus, Messiah, The Creation, Vesper and others. She sang in Handel’s oratorio Messiah with the Prague Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Helmut Rilling.
In collaboration with the Hradišťan dance ensemble, the Zlín Philharmonic Orchestra and The Czech Ensemble Baroque Orchestra, she sang in Bohuslav Martinů’s Kytice project and in J.J. Ryba’s Bohemian Shepherd’s Mass. For many years she has been working with the Film Symphony Orchestra and Barrandov Film Studios on domestic and foreign film and computer music productions. She sings with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava, Capella da Camera and the Talich Chamber Orchestra, with which she participated in the closing concert of the music festival in Bergerac, France. She also works with the famous composer and pianist Karel Růžička – Celebration Jazz Mass. She has studied the following roles for the National Theatre in Prague: Jano (L. Janáček: Jenufa), Feklusha (L. Janáček: Káťa Kabanova) and Lady in Waiting (B. Britten: Gloriana).
