Michael Luginbühl
Michael Luginbühl
Child- and Youth Class
The Vienna-based cellist Michael Luginbühl received his training at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Music with Marek Jerie – and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Wolfgang Aichinger, with further inspiration from Bruno Weinmeister. Masterclasses with Miklós Perényi, Arto Noras, and Nikolaus Schmidt complemented his training.
While still a student, he gained orchestral experience as a substitute with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, and the Bühne Baden. His artistic work combines chamber music, church music, and the Viennese sound tradition.
He is a member of the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. Augustine, as well as the Vienna Classical Soloists, with whom he performs extensively in the fields of classical and Viennese music. As cellist of the Küchl Quartet, he cultivates the chamber music tradition of Viennese Classicism together with Prof. Rainer Küchl.
Since 2019, he has been teaching at the music schools of the City of Vienna and supervising the cello groups of the Orchestra Academy (Vienna Youth Symphony Orchestra, Vienna String Philharmonic). Several of his students are prize winners of the Prima la Musica competition and members of the Junge Akademie Wien, the support program of the music schools of the City of Vienna for particularly gifted children and young people. His teaching follows in the tradition of André Navarra and combines technical clarity with musical expressiveness and stylistic depth.
