John Holloway

1999–2014 Professor for violin (modern and baroque) and chamber music at the University of Music Dresden. A pioneer of the modern Early Music movement in Britain. His recording of Biber’s Mystery Sonatas won a Gramophone Award in 1991, and remains the reference recording of this music. Recordings for ECM New Series include Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo. 1977–1992 concertmaster/soloist with Andrew Parrott’s Taverner Players and Roger Norrington’s London Classical Players. Taught at the Guildhall School London, the Schola Cantorum Basel and Indiana University, Bloomington. Master classes throughout Europe, USA, Israel, Canada, Korea, Colombia and New Zealand. In 2004 he was the Regents’ Lecturer at UC Berkeley, U. S. In 2014 he was juror for international competitions in Germany (Leipzig, Freiburg im Breisgau), Italy and China.
